ABOUT UMUABALI CITIZENS EMPOWERMENT FORUM
The idea of having a community-led charity effort to assist widows in Umuabali was initiated at a meeting of the Umuabali Family Union, Lagos in 2004. This effort was to be known as the Widows Support Welfare Program. A committee, headed, initially by Prof Louis Nwoku and later by Chief Kamdi Ehighibe, both very distinguished Umuabali citizens now late, to implement the program. The program became one that the widows expected every year with much interest.
To formalize and grow the program, Umuabali Citizens Empowerment Forum (UCEF) was registered by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in 2018 as a non-profit organization. This formal registration positioned UCEF as a skills development and citizen empowerment organization with a major focus on widows, youths, and the less privileged in our community Umuabali, Umu-okorodo, Umuopara, Umuahia, Abia State, Nigeria.
The welfare interventions include the Widows and Widowers Support (end-year welfare gifts), Education Support (financial and other assistance to qualifying Umuabali students from less privileged families in tertiary institutions (University/Polytechnic) within Nigeria), Medical Support (providing financial aid to assist the very-poor Umuabali citizens get medical care) and Enterprise Support (Skills Development Scheme plus a Small Loans Scheme).
In addition to the above, UCEF provides the platform to raise funds to execute certain urgent critical projects in the Umuabali Community.
